After an excellent career as a football player and manager, Nevio Scala decides to return to his homeland, and with the strong help of his son Claudio and daughter-in-law Elisa, he’s rebuilding an ecosystem that industrial agriculture had wiped out.The farm is located in the village of Lozzo Atestino (30 km southwest of Padova), between two significant groups of hills, the Colli Euganei and the Berici. It extends from the igneous rocks (trachite euganea) of the Monte Lozzo, through the calcareous sediments in Valbona, to the alluvial sands in Saline. The varieties grown by the Scala family are Garganega, Moscato bianco and giallo, Malvasia Istriana for the whites and Cabernet Franc, Merlot and old indigenous varieties (Turchetta, Recantina, Pataresca, Corbinona) for the reds. The cellars is a beautiful old barn that has just been restored by the family. Stainless steel vats for the fermentation, concrete tanks and a few wooden barrels for the ageing. A fascinating space that connects old and new generations.
